Hello friends! I don’t know about you all, but I personally couldn’t live without hummus. Okay, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but I’m in love with hummus. It’s probably my easiest go-to food. I just head out to the store and buy some hummus and pita bread.
But have you ever made your own hummus!? GAME CHANGER. It tastes so creamy and fresh, not to mention you can cater the flavor to what you like. I love leaving whole chickpeas in there as well to pot for a more interesting consistency than your standard hummus.
I made this batch specifically to bring to JJ’s parent’s house for a small gathering. Everyone loved it and ate it right up! Pair it with some warm pita bread or bell peppers and carrots. Let me know how yours turns out!

Ingredients
- 4 garlic cloves
- 2 14 oz cans chickpeas (reserve 1/3 cup)
- 1/3 cup tahini
- ¼ cup lemon, about 1 medium lemon
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp water
- 5 drops hot sauce, if desired
- 4 tsp parsley, separated
- Paprika, to tatse
- Olive oil, to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the chickpeas and set 1/3 cup aside.*
- Place the chickpeas into a food processor along with the garlic, tahini, lemon, salt and process until smooth.
- Add in 1 tbsp of water at a time until desired consistency.
- Add in the hot sauce, if using, 2 tsp of parsley, and process until just mixed.
- Remove from food processor, add in reserved chickpeas, and stir.
- Top with remaining parsley, sprinkle with paprika, and drizzle with some olive oil.
Notes
*If you have a lot of time and want to make extra smooth hummus, peel off the skins of the chickpeas by pinching them softly in your fingers.
